Thinking of You

 Thinking of You

I’ve been thinking about you lately
And I thought I might stop by
And tell you how my life has changed
And all the reasons why.

You see, I bought myself a campervan
Brutus is his name
And since I started travelling
My life’s not been the same.

I’ve been out to Mt Isa
And the Stockman’s Hall of Fame
I stopped at the long water hole
And places I can’t name.

I travelled down through Stonehenge
And Jundah, and Windorah
And I loved that red dust country
Out near Queensland’s western border.

I spent Christmas time in Tassie
(Nearly 3 months I was there)
And I spent lots of time with Marion
Although the cold was hard to bear.

I camped the east coast beaches
Loved Lagoons and Swimcart best
And then travelled along the northern coast
And the hilly, rugged west.

When I came back to the mainland
I went down Gippsland way
And caught up with friends and rellies
And some invited me to stay.

But it’s up along the Murray
That I’ve thought of you the most
You spent your early childhood there
And I raise to you this toast

Thank you for the life I have
And the values I hold dear
I miss you, Dad, ten years have gone
So much has changed for me.

I often feel you with me
As I travel far and wide
And it’s very reassuring
To feel you by my side.

I’m glad I stopped to have this chat
I’ve been meaning to for a while
I wanted you to know for sure
My new life is one big smile.

So thank you, thank you, once again
For the happy start to life I had
You helped to make me who I am
And I’m part of you, dear Dad.

  2. Rosemary, what a wonderful poem. It bought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Keep up the good work. Pauline Watkins
